Rogaland, Norge - Juni 2024

Fagprøven is a state exam in Norway that assesses the level of medical knowledge of physicians. It consists of three parts: a written test, an oral exam, and a clinical exam. Each part takes one day to complete. The exam can only be taken in Oslo. You can take the exam after achieving a B2 level in Norwegian and obtaining approval from the Directorate of Health (Helsedirektoratet). Compared to Ukrainian exams, it is similar to KROK, OSCE, and state exams.

After receiving permission, you have three attempts and three years to pass it.

Written Test

The written part consists of 140 questions. The test includes both basic disciplines (biochemistry, pharmacology, physiology, etc.) and clinical subjects. To pass, you must score at least 65%. For preparation, it is recommended to use tests from previous years and recommended textbooks (e.g., Allmennmedisin). These are usually available for purchase on finn.no.

Previous years’ tests can be taken in a web application via the link: Fagprøven platform

Oral Part

As in the written part, the questions cover subjects from all six years of medical university. The exam lasts 30 minutes. The examiner has a reference answer and will compare it with your response to evaluate how closely it matches.

Clinical Part

In the final part, you will rotate through stations with patients. You will need to perform an examination and make the correct clinical diagnosis. Actors play the roles of patients. There are 10 stations, with 7 minutes allocated for each station.

The tests and tasks are very similar to what we had at university. Therefore, the main emphasis should be placed on learning the language.

The total cost of the exam in 2026 is 22,500 NOK (7,500 NOK per part).
